Boulder Day Nursery Was Established
Through the Efforts of Community-Minded Volunteers

"Operation of the nursery for many years has been a labor of love for all the many Boulder women and men who have served on the board. One, Marguerite Dean, served 40 years on the board. Irene Tanner has given almost as many years. Many others have devoted years of service and attention, sometimes even taking turns doing dishes, planning parties, cleaning and painting." Boulder Day Nursery continues to have many opportunities to those who wish to volunteer their time for the benefit of the community and its children:

Board of Directors: Over the past nine decades, more than three hundred community members have served as directors. (Please refer to the "Consistent Mission, Constant Change" brochure - pages 24 and 25 - for a complete list of past board directors.) If interested in this level of community involvement and leadership, please contact Steve Callander on the Contact page for more information regarding board member responsibilities and application procedures.

Service within the school: Over the years, many volunteers have helped at Boulder Day Nursery because of a strong and committed love of children. Many have been foster grandparents, serving through the Volunteers of America program. Others volunteer just because they love to sing and play with children.

Service through school programs: Several high schools in the Boulder area have a community service curricula component. To students interested in working with children as part of your school program, please email Bethany from the Contact page for more information and participation requirements.

Mandated community service: Boulder Day Nursery is a nonprofit organization that cooperates with the justice system in providing community service opportunities to citizens who need to complete mandated community service obligations for minor offences. These volunteer opportunities are limited to non-childcare related activities, such as, library management, fix-it jobs, and cleaning. If you need to fulfill a mandated community service obligation, please email Bethany from the Contact page to inquire if we need assistance.
